You may have considered this, but if you have dog clothes, in other words, clothes for your pet, then you have to care for them.  Dog clothes cost about as much as human clothes, so you have to learn how to care for them to make them last.

There are 3 main things to consider that will make the canine fashion last a good many years.

The first thing you keep in mind is that dog clothes can get very dirty and stinky.  I know that may seem obvious, but even more so than your clothes as dogs are generally close to the ground.  They wade through mud puddles that you have the good sense to go around.  They really don’t care if the Basset Hound coat you bought for your loved one, costs you a fortune.  So in light of that, be sure to clean the clothes periodically.  You can was them in your wash machine usually with no problems.

The second thing to keep in mind is that many dog clothes may have other things on them that need special care. If you have lots of Velcro, be sure to brush it out every few weeks to keep it closing properly. You should also close all the Velcro prior to putting the garment in the washer as that will preserve the life of the Velcro considerably.

Lastly, some dog clothes you buy are made of a higher quality than other brands.  I am not against buying the cheaper stuff,  just realize it may not hold up as well to washing.  Some fabrics and fasteners may need to be hand washed and dried on a line to make them  last longer.

Taking care of your dog’s clothes is just another part of being a responsible and loving pet owner. It will also save you money by making the clothes you by last a long time.

Dog clothes can look adorable on your favorite canine companion, and they can also be very functional for your dog. For example, tee shirts made for dogs can provide some protection from the sun. They may help protect dogs from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Many people don’t realize that dogs are actually susceptible to sunburn and skin cancer if they have exposed skin.

Dogs can feel very uncomfortable going for a walk outside during the cold winter months. A warm dog coat or sweater can make your dog feel better when he is outside walking with you. This may be especially true for small breeds, like Chihuahuas or Yorkshire Terriers. Dog boots are even available in many sizes for use in the wintertime. Large dogs, such as Golden Retrievers or Irish Setters may need dog clothes too. Raincoats will keep all dogs dry and comfortable during their walks outside in the rain.

It may take a little planning and thought when choosing clothes for your dog. Always remember that you should not buy dog clothes with buttons or fringe for a dog that is known to chew a great deal. You need to keep in mind that any object that could be chewed off and swallowed by a dog may be a possible safety danger.

You will need to measure your dog and assess his needs, according to the season and the thickness of his coat. For example, a Chinese Crested Hairless dog will need a warmer coat than an Afghan Hound or a Husky. You will need to use your good judgment when selecting dog clothes for your favorite pooch. Often times, people choose un-shrinkable, machine washable clothing that is easy to get on and off of their dog. Fleece and wool are common fabrics for dog coats.

Some people decide to coordinate their dog’s clothing with their own wardrobe. You can usually find designer dog clothing boutiques around the large cities. It may be practical and economical to shop online to get quality dog clothes at an affordable price. Clothes for our pampered pets are fun and very functional for most dog breeds.
